Café name and logo: the supporting record

A general preparation checklist to keep trademark records, use arrangements and the logo-design agreement distinct. It does not decide who owns a particular mark or design.

01 / Identify the names and records

List the café's trading name, the word or logo used as a mark, and the entity operating the café. Keep the commercial record, trademark application and registration certificate separately identified; an application is not a registration.

Record the applicant, registered owner and actual user exactly as each document describes them. Note dates, registration or application references, relevant classes and any missing or inconsistent record.

02 / Gather transfer and use documents

If a transfer or permission to use is relied on, gather the agreement and any related register entry or publication. MOCI offers separate services for registration, ownership transfer and use-licence records; do not treat them as interchangeable.

Flag differences between the registered owner and operating entity for review. Paying for signage, commissioning a logo or operating under a name does not, by itself, resolve the legal questions in the file.

03 / Keep the design agreement separate

Keep the designer's agreement, scope, delivery records, invoices and any licence or assignment wording. Identify what was agreed about use, modification and source files, without assuming a default ownership outcome.

Trademark records do not settle every copyright or design-contract question. Any conclusion requires review of the actual documents and applicable current rules. Share private records only through an agreed channel.
